A message from Billy
Dear Friend,
It has been a long hard-fought battle for our state to recover from Hurricane Katrina. For the past four years, the constant struggles with federal bureaucrats and the Corps of Engineers have occupied much of my time while serving as President of Plaquemines Parish. Just as we began to see real progress, we were again devastated by the BP Oil Spill.
Never could I have imagined that in the United States of America, the greatest nation in the world, a foreign company could convince our government leaders to let them be in charge of this disaster. I maintain today as I have throughout my involvement that no one was in charge and I had to do whatever I could to protect my parish and our state.
In the fall of 2010, an election was held to fill the office of Lieutenant Governor vacated when Mitch Landrieu became Mayor of New Orleans. I was flattered and honored to be called upon from people around the state encouraging me to run. However, my immediate responsibility and commitment was to the people of Plaquemines Parish who trusted me to make things right for them after the spill. I ran for re-election for Parish President and won overwhelmingly with 71 percent of the vote in the highest turnout election in the state.
As my work has continued in the recovery of our state from the oil spill, I have realized much of rebuilding Louisiana’s image will reside in the office of Lieutenant Governor. After much encouragement and listening to supporters from around the state, I am considering running for Lieutenant Governor in the fall election. I also believe this is where I can do the most good for the Great State of Louisiana.
While I am planning an extensive travel schedule to meet as many of you as possible in person, an extensive media campaign will be created and must be funded so that our message can reach all 4.5 million of Louisiana’s citizens. Costs are great in reaching so many people. My campaign organization, Friends of Billy Nungesser, has always been a grassroots organization reaching out to as many people as possible. It will take all of us working together to make our efforts a success. Any financial support you can give would be greatly appreciated. $10, $25, $100 or any amount up to the legal limit of $5,000 would be welcomed.
