WASHINGTON, D.C. - Tony Perkins, Chairman of Family Research Council Action PAC, announced his endorsement this morning of Billy Nungesser for Lt. Governor.

“I have watched Billy fight for Louisiana families and jobs over the past year and half and his passion and tenacity is exactly what our state needs in Baton Rouge,” said Perkins. “He is solidly conservative and pro-life. I am confident that we can count on him to advance a pro-family, pro-economic environment that will benefit Louisiana families. He is a fiscal conservative who actually cares about protecting taxpayer dollars and I know he will stand against any tax increases that will make it harder for Louisiana families to live and work. I am proud as a Louisiana citizen to stand with Billy and confident Louisiana will join me in making him our next Lt. Governor tomorrow.”

Tony Perkins is a former member of the Louisiana legislature where he served for eight years, where he was recognized as a legislative pioneer for authoring measures like the nation’s first Covenant Marriage law. FRC Action PAC is the political action committee connected to FRC Action — the legislative advocacy arm of the Family Research Council, an organization that has been in Washington, DC for nearly three decades shaping public policy that advances faith, family and freedom.

For most, Billy Nungesser burst into your consciousness shortly after the oil spill. Besides our governor, Mr. Nungesser was the main character who carried our state’s fears and concerns to the national audience. But he also did something else that was critical: He demanded action and plenty of it. In fact, he never tired of taking our case to anyone who would listen. You could not turn on the TV or radio or open a newspaper without hearing from Mr. Nungesser. Thank goodness he chose that moment to not flinch from the tasks at hand.

Mr. Nungesser is a Sportsman. He fishes, he hunts and he recognizes the treasures God has bestowed upon the great state of Louisiana. Mr. Nungesser knows we have to preserve this treasure for generations that live here and those who visit our state to enjoy our bounty. He has proposed having the Lieutenant Governor’s office be the umbrella by which all the various entities can present a unified front. The Lieutenant Governor’s office is also charged with running the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism. Mr. Nungesser has also pledged to use all the resources possible to continue to grow, and nuture the sportfishing, hunting and coastal tourism business that has taken its bumps and bruises from hurricanes, oil spills and, of course, coastal erosion.

Now Sportsmen from throughout the state have a choice to make this Saturday: whom will be best to represent our interests in the Lieutenant Governor’s office? The Louisiana Sportsman endorses Mr. Billy Nungesser and encourages you to vote for him.

Belle Chasse, LA – After months of trying to claim he is a fiscal conservative, Jay Dardenne publicly admitted this morning that he did vote to raise taxes as a member of the Louisiana Legislature. The admission came during a live appearance this morning on the Denny Schaffer show on WRNO in New Orleans. A caller asked Dardenne if he had voted to raise taxes. Dardenne tried to be evasive, but the caller and Schaffer persisted, asking him to answer the question. Dardenne finally responded, “I have voted to raise taxes. I was in the legislature 15 years and the Stelly Plan raised income taxes.”

“It has taken several months for Dardenne to finally come clean, but the truth is finally out. Jay Dardenne is not a fiscal conservative. He has raised taxes, including serving as the floor leader for the Stelly bill,” said Billy Nungesser, Dardenne’s opponent in Saturday’s election. “His record doesn’t lie and he is finally telling the truth about who he is and where he stands. He voted to raise taxes, words out of his own mouth. He also voted not to protect the unborn and to make it easier for illegals to work in this state. In these uncertain times, we need someone who is a proven fighter for our hardworking people and their tax dollars.”

The curious truth of this cycle’s Lieutenant Gubernatorial contest comes from a general acknowledgement that Bobby Jindal has no intention of remaining in his current office for the next four years. That means, whomever is elected Lt. Gov, will likely serve as Governor prior to the 2015 elections.

In choosing between Republicans Billy Nungesser and Jay Dardenne, we will, in all probability, elect the next Governor on Saturday, October 22nd. And, in our editors’ view, the best candidate for both Lt. Governor and Governor is clearly Billy Nungesser.

When the levees threatened to break during Hurricane Gustav, Nungesser was out in South Plaquemine getting the weak spots sandbagged. When the BP oil spill threatened to destroy our coasts, it was Nungesser who led the efforts to install off-shore protective berms. And, most importantly, when he could have put the blame at Barack Obama’s feet for the delays, Nungesser refused.

The Plaquemines Parish President was critical of Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen, but openly praised the help of EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson and President Obama. It was a risky move for a Republican Parish President to take, but he had no regrets in, as put it, “giving deserved praise where it was due”.

The Plaqumines Parish President is native New Orleanian, born and raised in Algiers, who acknowledges the importance of this city as a critical economic linchpin of the state.

Unlike Jay Dardenne, he has pledged to keep the Lt. Governor’s office in New Orleans open, and occupied, and if Jindal should depart, to give the city its due consideration budgetarily.

We need a fighter for New Orleans, and if the BP oil spill did not prove it, nothing could. Billy Nungesser fights for his home state–and his home city.

Belle Chasse, LA - Dr. Verne Kennedy of Market Research Insight, widely regarded as one of the most respected pollsters in the country, released poll numbers today showing the Louisiana Lt. Governor’s race in a virtual dead heat.

The campaign for Lt Governor continues to move in Billy Nungesser’s direction. A survey of 600 likely voters conducted last Wednesday and Thursday by Verne Kennedy showed the race functionally tied at 30% for Dardenne and 28% for Nungesser.

This weeks tracking of 400 likely voters completed within the last two nights has Nungesser opening up a slight lead 31% to 29% but still within the margin of error.

Since September’s survey, Nungesser’s ballot support has increased by more than 10-points while Dardenne has seen a slight decrease in support.

“Billy Nungesser is innovative, dynamic and he never runs out of energy. He is probably the one person in Louisiana who has more energy than me. More importantly, he’s got ideas and integrity,” said Kern. “He loves Louisiana with a passion. He won’t be good – he’ll be great – as our next Lt. Governor. Nobody is going to bully him around, witness what happened with British Petroleum. He is a winner and I’m for him and I hope everybody votes for him.”

Early voting continues in Louisiana this week with election day set for Saturday, October 22nd.
